Dr. Munroe will discuss your goals and help determine the number of treatments you will need. For optimal results, patients usually require 3-5 treatments at monthly intervals.
IPL takes about 20 minutes or less depending on the area treated. The IPL probe is carefully applied over the areas to be treated. During treatment, you will feel a slight sting, similar to a rubber band snap against the skin.
Immediately after treatment, your skin may appear slightly reddish with some swelling and blotchiness. These effects normally disappear after a few hours.
There is minimal downtime after IPL. You will be able to return to work immediately afterwards.
You may see some discoloration in the skin areas treated. After a few days, blistering, crusting and skin peeling may occur. These areas will resolve within one to two weeks.
You will start to notice marked improvement in the appearance of your skin over the next several weeks. Optimal results are usually not achieved until all treatments are performed which usually takes several months.
After completion of your IPL treatments, you will notice a significant improvement in the tone of your skin with a cleaner, brighter appearance.
