Facial Fillers

As we age, we naturally lose volume in our face which results in increased wrinkles, skin folds, and facial depressions. Fillers help restore a more natural, rejuvenated appearance by adding volume and fullness to your face.

Fillers can help restore various facial features and lines including:

  • Worry lines (forehead lines)
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Smile lines (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth)
  • Marionette lines (lines below the corners of the mouth)
  • Cheek depressions
  • Under eye hollows
  • Witch’s chin
  • Smoker’s lines (lines around the lips)
Dermal Fillers

There are many different commercially available fillers, the most common of which are derived from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid acts as a natural sponge that absorbs water. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid naturally decreases over time. Fillers help restore facial features by restoring water to your face and removing any undesirable facial lines or wrinkles. Two of the more commonly used fillers include:

  • Juvederm
  • Restylane

Each filler has different properties with regards to longevity and tissue effect.

After evaluating your facial features, Dr. Munroe will discuss your aesthetic goals and choose a filler based on your examination. She will then outline a treatment plan specific for you. The goal of treatment is to create a softer, smoother appearance to your facial skin.

What to Expect during Treatment

Treatments may take 15-45 minutes depending on the areas treated and the amount of fillers to be injected. Fillers are administered via a fine needle directly into the skin. There is no sedation required, although a numbing cream can be applied to help minimize any discomfort. Once the injection sites are sterilized, the filler is injected and results are immediately noticeable.

Follow Up Care

After the treatment, you may experience slight tenderness, swelling, and redness at the injection sites which usually resolves within a few days. You should avoid any strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours. While the effects are immediate, patients can see the results of fillers last for 6 months up to a year.
