Brow Lift

OVERVIEW:

Our eyebrows start to sag as we age which can cause your face to look tired, angry, or even sad. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure that raises the soft tissue and skin in the eyebrows and forehead. The major goals of a brow lift are to:

  • Raise sagging eyebrows
  • Reduce wrinkles across the forehead
  • Improve frown lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows)
  • Restore a more refreshed, pleasing appearance to your face

A brow lift can be done in combination with an upper eyelid blepharoplasty which removes any excess skin on your eyelids.

At the time of your consultation, Dr. Munroe will measure different parts of your face including with your eyes open and closed. Dr. Munroe will review expectations and all treatment options with you.

Brow Lift

During The Procedure

A brow lift is typically done in an outpatient setting using general anesthesia and typically takes 1-2 hours to perform. Techniques for brow lifts vary depending on the severity of drooping present. Surgical incisions can be made behind the hairline, directly above the brow, in the forehead creases, or at the hairline. During the procedure, the tissue and muscles that cause the brow to sag are lifted. This repositioning of the tissue allows the brow to be raised to a more youthful position and helps remove any creases or wrinkles across the forehead. The incisions are then closed with small sutures upon completion of the procedure.

Follow Up Care

There is usually minimal discomfort after a brow lift. Cold compresses are applied to the surgical site to help reduce swelling and bruising. An antibiotic ointment will also prescribed to prevent infection. Strenuous activity should be avoided for several days. Patients are asked to keep their head elevated. Most patients are able to return to regular activity within 1-2 weeks.
