OVERVIEW:

When we smile, frown, and make other expressions, the muscles of facial expression contract and cause dynamic wrinkles. Over time, these dynamic wrinkles can become permanent. BOTOX^® injections have successfully been used to soften and even erase wrinkles, giving a refreshed and youthful appearance. BOTOX^® works by temporarily weakening the facial muscles that create the wrinkles, but when used over a longer period of time can have lasting effects due to collagen remodeling in the skin.

Dr. Munroe will administer BOTOX® strategically and creatively in order to allow natural facial muscle function, while eliminating unwanted wrinkles.

Botox can be used to treat the following conditions:

• Frown lines between the eyebrows “worry lines” or “11 lines”
• Forehead wrinkles
• Lines around the eyes “Crow’s feet”
• Wrinkles along the bridge of the nose “bunny lines”
• Downturned corners of the mouth
• Wrinkles of the upper lip
• Dimpling of the chin

What to Expect during Treatment

BOTOX injections are simple treatments performed in the office that take approximately 10-15 minutes to administer. After examining your facial muscles, Dr. Munroe will administer Botox® in tiny injections directly into the eye and facial muscles that are responsible for your wrinkles and lines. The dosage amount varies and is determined by the degree of the wrinkles and other factors. There is minimal discomfort and no anesthesia is required. You will be able to go home right after treatment with no downtime from your normal routine.

Follow Up Care

It may take up to 2 weeks to see the full results of your treatment, and the effects will typically last up to 3-4 months.

After treatment, mild swelling and bruising may appear on the injection spots. Patients are advised to limit exercise and to maintain an upright position for four hours after treatment. The redness and swelling will only last for a few hours, but some patients may experience bruising for several days.

The results from your BOTOX treatment take 5 – 7 days to appear. When they do, your face will look smoother and brighter. You will notice a softening and relaxation of the wrinkles in the treated area, resulting in a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance.
